When a channel disappears from the line-up

Why individual channels come and go, how to tell a genuine change from a fault at your end, and what happens after you report one.

Three different things that look identical

A channel that will not open looks the same whichever of three quite different things has happened. The source may be having a bad hour, the channel may have been renumbered into a different group, or your own connection may be struggling.

The way to tell them apart takes about thirty seconds. Open two other channels from two different groups. If they play, the problem is that one channel. If they do not, the problem is at your end and the channel is a red herring.

Channels move more often than they vanish

The most common cause of a channel apparently disappearing is that it has been renamed or moved into a different group. Broadcasters rebrand, feeds get reorganised, and a channel you had in favourites under one name is sitting three groups away under another.

Search the channel list rather than scrolling, and search for a fragment of the name rather than the whole thing. That finds it the great majority of the time.

Refresh the list before concluding anything

Players cache the channel list, sometimes for days. If the line-up changed at our end this morning, your television may still be showing you yesterday evening. Most players have a refresh or reload option in settings, and the rest will do it if you sign out and back in.

This is the step that resolves most reports of a missing channel, and it is the one nobody thinks to try first.

What happens when you report one

Send support the exact channel name, the group it was in, and when you last saw it working. That goes to the person who manages sources rather than into a generic queue, and a replacement feed is usually in place within a day.

Vague reports are much harder to act on. There is no useful response to a message saying the sport channels are not working, because there are several thousand of them. One channel name turns an unanswerable message into a fixable job.

The honest position

No line-up of this size is completely static, and any provider who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you. Individual channels change, and occasionally one is unavailable for a stretch while a better source is found.

What we will do is tell you which of those is happening rather than leaving you guessing, and we do not treat a single changed channel as a reason to stop answering messages.

Send the order number and the exact channel or device involved. Specific messages reach the person who can change something, which is a different route entirely from a general enquiry.
