The setup
Install a player from the TV store
Open the Samsung Apps store or the LG Content Store and search for an IPTV player. Several are available on each platform. Install whichever one has the cleaner guide layout for you, since they all connect to the same subscription.
Register the device key if it asks
Some television players show a device key or MAC address on first launch and require you to register it on the developer website before they will load a playlist. If yours does, complete that step now. Skipping it produces an empty channel list that looks like a subscription fault.
Add the subscription
Choose to add a playlist, pick Xtream Codes, and enter the server, username and password from your account. Choose Xtream over the M3U link where the player offers both, because the guide is far better populated.
Wait out the first load
A television processor is far weaker than a phone. Building the channel list and seven days of guide data can take five minutes or more, and the screen will look frozen while it happens. Do not restart the app. It gets there.
Cut the list down
This matters more on a television than anywhere else. Hide every group you do not watch. A pared-back list of a few thousand entries is the difference between a player that responds instantly and one that pauses every time you press a button.
Things that catch people out
- If the player crashes while the guide loads, the set has run out of memory. Hide groups first, before the full list ever builds.
- Sets older than 2017 will struggle no matter what you do. A twenty-pound Android box in a spare HDMI port gives a far better experience than fighting the television.
- Turn off the television motion smoothing settings for live sport. They do unpleasant things to fast camera pans.
