The setup
Install a player from the App Store
Search the App Store for an IPTV player that supports Xtream Codes. Several good ones exist, most free with an optional paid upgrade that removes a limit you will not reach.
Add the subscription
Choose to add a playlist or account, pick Xtream Codes, and enter the server, username and password from your account page. Copy and paste them from the confirmation email rather than typing.
Let it index the library
iOS players build a local index of the film and series library on first run, which is why they can then search the whole library instantly. Give it two or three minutes on the first launch and leave the app in the foreground while it works.
Send it to the television if you want to
AirPlay from the phone or tablet puts the picture on an Apple TV or a compatible television with no extra setup. If you use an Apple TV regularly, install the same player directly on tvOS instead. It is smoother than mirroring.
Things that catch people out
- Switch off Low Power Mode before you watch. iOS throttles background network activity and the stream is the first thing to suffer.
- On an iPad, add your favourites early. The grid layout is beautiful and completely unusable across the full list.
- The tvOS version of most players supports the Siri remote properly, including scrubbing through catch-up, which mirroring does not.
